wowwwww, this is the single most time we are so responsive!! from individual fasting to group efforts. very very heartening to see such fervent passion being slowly spread around. slowly but surely right Leon?

Don't forget one another in our own quiet time.. Serene and Con is still facing their Mid years, and the last i check Sheryl has to battle against excessive shopping due to the GSS.

Pat, Shawny, Leon and Nick facing increasing pressure in both their work in school and CCA.

and JY takes super long to get home, lol.

Our efforts in speed, permeating in manners that will slowly convict, is sometimes very exhausting.

the speed light heads, fighting against much principalities and powers physical eyes cannot see.. they are, frankly, kinda tired!

so, as we go on fasting, we want to carry one another's burden! share share lah hor?

40 day prayer and fasting.

Anyway guys, as we all know the 40 day prayer and fasting season has started across Speedlight. Even though our humanly flesh might vehemently object to it (It is now.. I'm hungry), I believe it'll be good to do this as a cell as Nick suggested through sms. :)

Watched this video recently about fasting and it is pretty insightful about the world of fasting, so you might wanna check it out. It's only about 35minutes don't worry, and the speaker is so concise; 10 x more concise than my Biology lecture notes.

For the jc people, know you'll be damn lazy to click cos of stupid exams but get over your inertia and watch it :) it's a refreshing 30minutes I promise, I watched after my Econs/GP paper.

JIAYOU EVERYONE. Be it with school or fasting and any other concerns. It'll be 40 glorious days of God's power, amen.

ok, long posts are hard to read, soo.. heres a 1 min easy read.

We spent about 2 months just skimming through the old testiment, and one key activity that we never talked about was fasting.

Fasting, as we all are familiar in deed, is strangely foreign in Spirit. It's a practice much forgotten, but i have to say still holds the same power as when the ancients carried it out.

I used to wonder what benefit is there for God when we fast. I don't really get why He wants us to fast too. pretty tough to fast too, esp if you need tons of energy to carry on with the day.

But then i learnt that fasting is for us to remember who's in control. It's a humbling act of love. Here's a short story from the Bible.

Remember Ezra? He was one of the dudes that wanted to bring the remants of Israel back to Jerusalem. Here's the acct.

Ezra 8:21-23 (New International Version)
21 There, by the Ahava Canal, I proclaimed a fast, so that we might humble ourselves before our God and ask him for a safe journey for us and our children, with all our possessions.

22 I was ashamed to ask the king for soldiers and horsemen to protect us from enemies on the road, because we had told the king, "The gracious hand of our God is on everyone who looks to him, but his great anger is against all who forsake him."

23 So we fasted and petitioned our God about this, and he answered our prayer.

Ezra had two options ; ask the King of Persia for back up (the Carnal option)
or ask the King of King for help (the Spiritual option).

He chose the Spiritual one.

So lets do the same thing. Trying to keep it short, so here goes:

TASK 2:

We fast as a cell on the friday during lunch. We take 10 mins to pray and seek God. nothing fancy, just wanting to let Him know that we know He is still in control.

We are all preparing for the extended P&W in the midst of our hectic schedule.On sunday, i did a very selfish thing. I compared our cell with Bel's cell. Granted that they just merged and are naturally reserved, your natural smiles and countless inside jokes made me very proud of you all. Its strange to see how close you are today. Even Mei Ling commented that you kids are like a knitted family. sure,there are a little strife and arguments here and there, but ultimately we are bonded by love purely inspired by our Lord Jesus Christ. I guess that's why when we seek God together, it becomes a very precious thing.

Naturally i want you all to prep for the extended P&W. but I REALLY HOPE THE GIRLS WILL STUDY EVEN MORE. so girls, PLEASE.. 2 more weeks to the battle.. must make it count.. Sunday is for you to rest in worship..

Serene ah.. thursday retreat again.. mon to weds, cannot waste..

in the light of our sunday event, there are a few things we can do that i believe will heighten the atmosphere for that day's pursuit.

We talked about forgiveness on sunday..? anyway, you all donno my temper..quite short..beside's David, i managed to piss someone else off..Here's proof.

yo Boss, had the chance to read Deu 8 again when i reached home, the portion that you said, that during our stress times, we get to see how we truly are. It's easy to be a Christian on sunny days, but during the rainy days, ahh tt's the time we got to be wary. this lesson kinda sticks to me..

And i guess i failed miserably during my own rainy days. i was unhappy with how things changed and when i am tired i will get very unfriendly and uncooperative. I got to reflect on that as you were sharing on Deu 8.

I'm really sorry for the times i threw all those nonsense at you. You were indeed gracious and saw me thru it. esp those days where i just MIA for cell.

Frankly speaking, if i were to have a bad day again, i really donno if i have the strength to put on smiles and dont dampen other people's moods. But now that i am clearly aware of this, i will surely pray for the Spirit of Joy to surround me during those rainy days, and not run away from my duties. Anycase, gooood nite, see you on fridayy..

Psalm 23 - A Shepherd's Perspective"Shalom my friends. My name is Yeshua ben Yosef. I am from the ancient land of Palestine and I’m ashepherd by trade. It is an honor for a man of my occupation to be allowed to stand here and speak with you today. You see in my nation shepherding is not looked upon with favor. For most of my countrymen it is a job to be avoided rather than sought. The hours are long.The work is dirty and backbreaking. You should see the thick calluses on my feet. And the pay ... well let’s just say you’ll never get rich tending sheep for a living.

I learned the trade from my father and I continue the family tradition.Your pastor thought it would be helpful for me to come and speak with youtoday about my lowly occupation. I’m not really sure what a humble mansuch as I could teach you, but I’ll tell you everything that I know.Did you know that in the Bible you read, God refers to his people, youand me, as sheep nearly two hundred times? You may have never consideredthe significance of that comparison but I have because I work with sheepday and night. Let me tell you it’s not a compliment to be called asheep. Why not rather eagles - majestic, swift and beautiful? No, Godcalls us his sheep. Why not lions - strong, fearless, terrifying? No,instead, God calls us his sheep.

Oh they’re unique, but to be comparedto one is nearly an insult. A sheep is perhaps the stupidest animal onthe face of the earth. Have you ever seen a trained sheep in the circus?You’ll see elephants, horses, bears, seals even hippos, but not sheep.They’re too stupid to train. Sheep are also quite filthy. The woolthat you see in clothing has been cleaned thoroughly. The fluffy whitesheep that you view on your television sets didn’t get that way ontheir own. Sheep will not and cannot clean themselves. The shepherd orhis hired hands must do it for them. Not only are they dumb and dirty,sheep are utterly defenseless. They have no claws, no fangs, no wings.They can’t run fast or scare an enemy off with a loud roar or spray apredator with a noxious scent. All they can do is bleat.Sheep are completely reliant on their shepherds. Their lives andwell-being depend on the person who oversees them each day.

If God callsus his sheep I wonder just what he’s trying to say?Maybe you would understand God a little better if you spent a day withme. Come with me on a journey shepherding sheep.The day begins early, before dawn. It is my job to provide food andwater for my sheep. This is not an easy task. You see in my country theland is parched and dry. We have nothing like the vast green pasturelands that your sheep and cattle enjoy here. You can just turn youranimals loose and they have all the food they need. But not in mycountry. Oh no. Grass can be found only in narrow strips separated bylong stretches of rock and dust.

Except during the rainy season, water is provided by natural springs or wells spread out here and there. Isometimes have to lead my sheepmiles just for a few yards of grass or a quick drink of water. It is forthat reason that we arise early. It takes all day to find thenourishment my sheep need.I know the area like the back of my hand. I’ve walked every squarefoot of it many times. This is how I’m able to lead my sheep. You mayhave imagined that shepherding is like those old Westerns you’ve seenwhere the cowboys, riding their horses behind the herd, drive the cattleforward. Shepherding is somewhat different. I walk in front of the herd and they follow me. Wherever I go they go. If I were unfamiliar with theland or the sheep were left on their own they’d starve to death. But Ilead them. I know where the grass is. I’ve been there beforehand.We spend the entire morning traveling from pasture to pasture.

By mid-day the sheep are exhausted and thirsty. They need refreshing orthey will die. Along the route I know the location of several oasis.These places have shade and lush pasture for the sheep to rest. I makethey lie down and drink. Speaking of which, did you know that sheepwon’t drink from just any water source. Oh no. They will only drinkfrom quiet still pools. They have a natural fear of fast moving waterand for good reason. If a sheep should slip into a river or stream its wool would soon soak up the water and become completely saturated. Sheep are poor swimmers anyway, but the weight of the water in their woolwould cause them to sink and drown. That’s why the waters must begentle and still. If I can’t find a pool I have to create one bydiverting water from a stream.

Now you’re beginning to understand whathard work shepherding is.My sheep will be fine and have everything that they need as long as theyfollow me. I lead them along well-worn paths where I know we will findfood and water. They need my guidance.My sheep also need my protection. The land where we travel is fraught with dangers. Predators like lions and bears stalk the herds. There’s the occasional pack of wild dogs. Some harmless looking plants, thoughtasty, prove to be poisonous. A sheep might easily stumble over a cliffor fall into a ravine and die. But my sheep have no need to fear. Iwatch out for them. If they begin to wander off in the wrong direction Ihave my trusty shepherd’s staff to prod them back in the right direction. If they should fall into a pit or a ravine I use the otherend of my staff to reach down and lift them to safety.

I carry two sticks, though. One is a staff, but the other is a club. The staff isfor my sheep, but the club is for predators. My sheep may be dumb, butI’m quite attached to them. I’ll fight tooth and nail for their lives. Some of the hirelings and other shepherds I’m acquainted with have seen me battle a few of those big carnivores. They laugh and joke and tell me that some day one of those lions or bears will have me for lunch. That may be true, but I can tell you that I won’t look the other way or run the other way like those cowards. No, that’s the difference between a good and a bad shepherd. A good shepherd will laydown his life for his sheep.As long as they follow me I guide and protect my sheep. It’s tough work, but I always make sure my sheep have food to eat.

I always checkout the fields before I allow them to graze. If there are poisonous plants in the area and go through and weed out everyone by hand. I alsocheck the ground for snake holes. I told you it’s dangerous in myland. We have tiny little vipers that live underground in some of the pasture lands. When they sense the sheep grazing, they pop their ugly heads out of the ground and bite the sheep on the nose. The infection orvenom from the bite could kill them. But I have a remedy for those viscous little enemies. I walk off the entire area looking for snake holes. When I find them I pour a little olive oil into the entrance of the hole. Then I anoint the head and nose of each sheep with the sameoil and allow them to graze. The oil prevents the slick bodies of thesnakes from crawling out of their holes. They’re powerless to harm my sheep. It makes me laugh to watch my little lambs have a picnic in the very presence of their enemies.

By evening we return to the sheepfold. One by one I examine each ofthem. If I find any cuts or scraps on their bodies I apply healing ointment to their wounds. I make sure they have water to drink. If Ifind one nearly overcome with thirst I have a special cup-shaped bucket and let him drink by himself. Sometimes those sheep are so thirsty thatthey stick their heads in too fast and too far and the water overflows and wets their heads.Before bedding down for the night I always count my flock. Occasionally one of the lambs will stray, and there’s nothing more vulnerable than a sheep without it’s shepherd. I go immediately to find it and bringit back to the sheepfold.Every once in a while one of my lambs will develop a habit of straying.I remember one little fellow. I named him Jake. He came from a finefamily. His grandfather was one of my very first sheep. I called him OldAbe. Jake’s father was Isaac. Both Old Abe and Isaac faithfullyfollowed me and stayed on the path, but not that little rascal Jake. Heturned up missing more times than I could count. Sometimes he was insearch of greener pastures while at other times I found him chasing butterflies. He never realized the danger he in, but I understood it clearly.Something had to be done.

We shepherds have developed a technique guaranteed to prevent straying. It is used only as a last resort -- whena sheep refuses to stay with the flock. The last time I caught him straying I used it on little Jake. No doubt you will think that it’s cruel, but it saves the life of my sheep. At the end of the day I found little Jake wandering dangerously toward a steep gorge. I picked him up,put him on my shoulders and carried him back to the sheepfold. He didn’t struggle. Jake just looked at me with only trust in his eyes. I sat him down and quickly placed his right front leg across my staff.With one swift motion I pulled down of the long bone of his leg andbroke it. Wild-eyed, Jake struggled to get away. He immediately fell tothe ground in pain. He couldn’t understand. The one who provided for him and rescued him, the one who he trusted was inflicting the most excruciating suffering he’d ever endured. I didn’t want to, but Ihad to do it to save his life.Over the next few days, little Jake could barely get up. As the flocks moved from pasture to pasture I carried him every step of the way. I held him close in those days. He was suffering with that broken leg, but all the while I carried him close to my heart. I sat him down to eat and drink. Gradually he was able to walk again, but the smallest hill looked like a mountain to him and the shallowest stream like a mile-wide river.Whenever he encountered and obstacle all he could do was stop and look to me. Then I’d pick him up and help him over. Jake learned to trust and to follow. I had to break him to save his life. It worked. Jake is still with me today and one of my most loyal sheep.

Well that’s a day in the life of a shepherd. It’s not glamorous, butit’s a living. As undignified as my profession is it still amazes me that God compares himself to a shepherd and his people to sheep. I can see the truth in itthough. After all he meets our needs by providing the necessities of life, by guiding us each day and by protecting us. I guess we would be as content and at peace as my sheep if we’d just learn to trust and follow him. Even if we don’t understand where he’s leading or whathe’s doing in our lives, if we’d just trust him and follow himwe’d be satisfied.Thank you for listening. I’ve got to get back to work. This shepherding is a never-ending job if you know what I mean?"

Okay I should be studying now, but decided to share something with you guys. (if anyone still reads this space)

romans 8:1-4, There is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus.

A fable is told of 3 believers in Jesus who were walking down the pathway of life. Each had two sacks. One contained all the bad things the person had ever done. The other held all his acts of obedience to Christ.

The first traveler put the sack of his bad deeds around his neck and hung it in front of him. Peering down into his sack of failures, he thought he would be less likely to repeat them. he carried the sack of his good deeds behind him on his back.

The second person carried the sack of his virtues in front of him and threw the sack of his wickedness over his shoulder. He reasoned that if he kept goodness before him, he would be more likely to make the right choices in life. Yet he still had that heavy load of evil on his back.

The third person put the sack of his good acts in front of him as a reminder of how he should live for the Lord. He placed the sack of his sins on his back and cut a hole in the bottom of it to let the sins fall behind him. His journey was lighter and more pleasant. He was on the path Jesus wants us to walk.

Scripture teaches us that our sins are forgiven the moment we trust in Jesus. He took the punishment for them on the cross, and God will never hold them against us. They are emptied of their power; they cannot drag us down any longer. It does us no good to keep carrying them around.

Are you depressed because of things you've done? Can't get over your feelings of guilt and shame? Take them to the cross, and leave it there. Then move on, in confidence, knowing that you've been cleansed of all your sin. (romans 8:1-2)

Don't hold the present, nor the future, hostage to the past. Reach back and cut a hole in the sack.

Why cover them with animal skin garments?
We as man cannot cover ourselves well enough. Neither can we cover our sins well enough.

Why kill an animal?
An innocent must die, so that the guilty may be saved. God pronounced judgement then showed both Adam & Eve grace. He kicked them out of the garden of Eden then slayed an animal.

Why did Adam and Eve not die from eating the fruit?
Eating the fruit signified a Spiritual death, not a physical one. The moment they ate the fruit, they had begun to die.

Noah sacrificed an animal once on land after emerging from the ark. Why?
To say to God, I don't deserve your preservation of my life along with my family and yet by your grace I am alive.

Sacrifice under Mosaic Law
3 Central themes:

1.Consecration
The devoting or setting apart of anything to the worship or service of God.

2.Expiation
The removal or covering of sin through a payment of the penalty.

3.Propitation
The removal of God's wrath.

Sacrifice Regulations (Old Testament)
The Sacrifice had to be on altar only.

Clean(Acceptably or symbolically without sin).

Sacrifice had to be physically perfect in age and condition.(No loss of limbs, not too old.)

Sacrifice Regulations (New Testament)
God sacrifices for us!

Hebrews10:10

Animal sacrifices as a temporal way to deal with sin.

Jesus obeys the Father's will as a perfect sacrifice.

Contrast between Jesus' work and the priest's work.

Jesus' sacrifice need not be repeated.

hi peopleeeeeee. it's been eons since this blog has been of use. anyway, i decided to post some very brief notes taken from sermons and cell for the past few weeks. this is especially so for those who hvn't been to cell for a long time. we miss u guys man... please do come back after the o lvl ok? (:

3 weeks ago, we had combined cell with isabelle and big ben's cg. isabell talked about failure. that failure isnt the oppo of success, it's a mark that shows there's room for improvement, it's a stepping stone towards success. do not view failure as the end of the world. when u face failures, dun be depressed. there's no fear in God's perfect love. so dun fear failures.

2 weeks ago, cin talked about self-discipline. when we meet a prob, we always say to improve we need to do xxx and yyy but the main thing we need to achieve is self-discipline. iceberg theory: the 10% visible of the iceberg consists of one's actions, gestures, words and thoughts. but the other 90% unseen from the surface of the water includes the purpose, pirorities, values, identity, etc. qn for that day: why are still holding on to God?

today cin talked abt guilt. that guilt either disciplines us (in a positive way aka chasten) or condemn us. she referred to 1john 1:9. God aint the one changing, we are the ones that keep moving away from Him so if we able to embrace guilt correctly and face it by confessing our mistakes, we'd be free from the condeming kinda guilt and it helps us go back to God. but usu confessing that we're is a hard thing to do cos we need to put down our pride, and not compare with others. it's bt us and God. "No man knows how bad he is till he tries to be good" -- CS lewis.

pastor pacer talked about healing last week. he said for the youth it's mostly emotional healing. he said a prayer for us that was really... comforting. i can't rmb what he said in that prayer but he said scars are not marks of defeat. and that we ought to believe that God has the power to heal. sometimes in our lives, we ought to seek God, have this divine appt. with God, so as to receive treatment from Him. after all, the church is for the spiritually sick and weak ppl, not for those who are perfectly fine. (bible story John 4: 1-42)

today pastor pacer talked about changed hearts. that we ought to live by faith not by sight (2 cor 5:17) he talked abt zacchaeus, the short man (luke 19:1-10). erm he said... 5 main pts.

1) change comes with a desire (vs3)
2) change requires effort (vs4)
3) change takes place when Christ is in our hearts (vs5)
4) change makes u new person (vs8) (this kinda change need not be instructed by God, u just know what u should do, as in what's right)
5) change is only possible with Jesus (vs10) (when a person is changed, there'd be a chain reaction too)

1. 25th May 2008 (Sunday)
Divisional Meeting. Our new DL will be sharing some provoking issues. Come and be blessed by her message. The leaders have been praying and meeting up for this Div Meet. I know that you all have a Chinese Paper on the 26th May, but really hope that you can give us 2hrs of your time.

2. 1st June 2008 (Sunday)
Tracting for SOS! We'll be tracting during cell time. Take this opportunity to bond as a cell. To advance God's kingdom. To exercise!

3. 8th June 2008 (Sunday)
SpeedGames!!! This is an Opportunity to invite your friends to mingle with the speedlighters. This will lead up to the SOS service on the 15th June. Let them know that speedlighters can have fun too! If a almost 22-yr-old is going, you OUGHT TO go too! Really. It would be fun!!! Display your agility in Sports!

Some Thoughts...

Hey guys,

haha. probably few will read this post! but i just wish to blog down some thoughts...

Woke up earlier this morning to really spend some time with God. Something told me that i needed to spend some quiet moments with the Lord. Guilt, perhaps.

I made myself a cup of hot tea and bring it to my room. I shut the door so that this precious moment with the Lord will not be interrupted. At once, the refreshing touch of the Lord came upon me. I thought of the times when I was ungodly; when i'd sinned. But the good Lord just reminded me that He is more than willing to cleanse me of any unrighteousness.

I thought of the cell and told the Lord that it has shrunk. I prayed for ppl whom i dislike and asked the Lord to give me a forgiving spirit. I thought of the comments about speedlight by speedlighters, and I just wonder about the future of Speedlight, of the cell group, of the church.

I felt weary, and burdened.

"Let Me take all injustice. Let Me carry you through. Let Me carry Speedlight through."

Let Him.

I kept quiet and enjoyed the stillness of His presence. The Peace that I really love... He has been a good Lord. He is my provider & protector; a friend; a faithful heavenly father. It seems to me that all burdens and guilts have been lifted after this short 15 mins of rest.

Thank You Lord!

victory series: habits.
as you guys know, victory and failure can be a hindrance to us.
we must not be quick to judge.instaad, be mindful.
and to gain victory.we must change our mindset and attitude and perish the thought of defeat.

now for habits.
habits are difficult to take away.
so.

1st habit- heart: believes

from the heart comes belief (ref.Mark 11:23,Matthew 6:33)

2nd habit- eyes: see

we must look to God as a habit. (ref.Psalm 34:5)

3rd habit- mouth: speaks

we need God's wisdom to know what to say

4th habit- ears: listen

we first listen to God.then listen to his Word. (ref.Proverbs 8:33)

5th habit- hands: work

we must work for the things we want.

but if we do the same thing over again, we'll remain stagnant. (ref.Proverbs 12:14)

6th habit- dress well in the Spirit

we must physically and spiritually dress ourselves in a way that honours God.

Dear Ultimates,

Blessed 2008! I had a fruitful 2007 with you guys and i want to thank all of you for being faithful and of course more encouraging. It has been a blessing and joy to lead this cell. Truly, I've gained so much from you guys and i pray that 2008 will bring more blessings and rewards to all of us as we labour in the Lord.

Well, even as you all prepare for your 'O'-level and 'N'-level examinations, I pray that His strength will always uplifts you so that you all can go all out to glorify His Name. Remember, you re more than a conqueror! I'll be graduating in May and LQ will be going into army in April. Hopefully we'll have more time for you all. Feel free to ask us for help if you trust us. haha. :)

Anyway, Ultimates, I urge all of you to draw nearer to God. You first have to draw nearer for the verse says, 'Draw close to Him and He will draw close to you.' Do whatever you can to hold on to Him, because I know that as you grow older, there will be more temptations and challenges that sometimes make you lose focus and stray... So, be strong in the Lord and stay true to our God. Let's conquer 2008 as a cell and again we say: "We are more than Conquerors through Christ Jesus!"

hello guys, i'm sorry for not uploading when cin/lq weren't there to attend speedlight. so now, for the sake of those who didn't go speedlight last sunday, i'll be nice and scribe specially for you peeps (:

OC series- Obligation to Care
2 different meaings of 'care'
1. cares of the world (bad)
2. to show concern, regard, oversight (good)

Question of the day: Does God cares for you?
The very expected answer will "yes" followed by quoting verses such as John 3:16 or 1 John 3:16 but can you feel God's care?

Nahum 1:7- " The LORD is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in him" Do you understand this verse? Have you experienced this verse?

We are introduced ito a "fake" world. Devil makes ppl think we're not good enough, and when we feel that we lack sth, we cannot contend. So let life be shaped by Jesus, only then can we find confidence (:

Psalms 55:22- "Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous fall."

Sometimes we thrust our cares to Jesus, then take it back from Him (when we worry again). We must trust Jesus to take care of our cares and believe in His promises. God can lift your burdens, lighten ur load yet at the same time sustain you such that u will not fall, trust in Him (proverbs 3:5-6).

Next Question: Why should I care?
1. If you are righteous, you will care
Pro 29:7- "The righteous care about justice for the poor, but the wicked have no such concern."
If you consider yourself righteous, do u care for others? "Jesus loves me, this i know", can you feel it?

2.Jesus commanded us to care
John 21:16- "Again Jesus said, "Simon son of John, do you truly love me?"He answered, "Yes, Lord, you know that I love you." Jesus said, "Take care of my sheep."" (Jesus asked Peter 3 times!)
Peter was sad that Jesus asked 3 times. but why 3? simply because we easily forget and need reminders so Jesus repeated it 3 times. Jesus said it 3 times, so must be very impt, pls take note!"Jesus said, "Take care of my sheep." and by doing so, it's showing love to God.

If we cannot love God, we cannot love others. (so much for caring for others...)

the construction of faith

well, hello.. good morning actually, i just woke up and am about to head to Macs, but
before that, i need to clear my head, and this seems to be a very pleasant avenue eh!

I was struck by the issue of building faith, aka faith building, and its something we all must work on, regardless of the amount that God places in you at the start. i cannot help but think that its a very strange building process, because the first few bricks are not laid by the person himself...

well, the first block placed is surely by God, and this chief cornerstone is called Christ Jesus(Eph 2:20) . afterall, how else can we know Him except through the very allowance of Him letting us get to know Him?

and many many times, God would seem to be silent after the first block is laid. The Chief cornerstone then allows His co-labourers(Romans 8:17) to take over. I mean, very few people wakes up one morning and says :" hey maybe today i will try to believe Jesus" and then heads on to Church right?

no, in the normal circumstances, non-christians are brought to Church because, their christian friends care for them and want to see them saved. This is a very common 'ritual', afterall, its how tons of people got saved in the Bible. who knows why God doesn't build the whole faith of that person Himself. All i know is He relies heavily on His Co-labourers.

which brings me to this point ; what exactly are His co-labourers building? you can have a really fanciful cornerstone, but if the rest of the structure is badly build, the person's faith will crumble man.

its not very fair if you think about it.. we are responsible for the building of other people's faith, and hence we have a part to play in other people's lives. and if we dont play the part well, other people loses their salvation! my gosh, that is a HEAVY HEAVY burden to bear when i think about it.

and yet God wants us to be responsible for other peoples lives..its called accountability, and He assures us we are not alone as we look out for other people(Matt 28:20).

Of course, after the christian matures, he must build his own faith Himself, so.. do your QT yah? lol. dont rely it all on the Pastors.

but at this juncture, i want to appeal to you to take up not just responsibility in cell (as you all are doing) but also take up responsibility in the lives of other people. esp, the new comers. its not possible for them to fit in by themselves, you need to build and strengthen their faith for them(to a certain extent) at this point. i will go so far as to say that they cannot do it themselves, they dont have the cability. You cannot push the job just to Cindy and I, its not going to work.. you need to be the host, and i assure you its going to worth it..painfully troublesome, but it will worth it.

so think about it, ways to build the faith of one another, esp any new comers who decides to stay, and really do it.

There are many situation in life that may pressure you... The pressing issue is how you handle stress when you are in the midst of it.

Lessons to be learnt:
1. What are the effects when you're pressed.
Consider the outcomes of such situation. Will it do you good ultimately?
James 1:2-4
My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptation. Knowing [this], that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have [her] perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.

2. What are your response when you are pressed?
reflect upon how you manage stress in the past. Did you handle it well, or did you just succumb to the pressure and let it overcome you?

Character Study on Paul
In Philippians 1: 20-24, Paul wrote a letter to encourage the Philippians in Jail.
- It could be his last moments in life, yet he wrote to encourage others. His principle and his conception of God, say it all: "To live is Christ, and to die is gain."
- Hardship is nothing as compared to spreading the love of Christ. Christ is his motivation.

Whether we know it or not, earth's atmosphere is pressing against us with a force of 1 kg/cm2. Physically, that’s about 14,000 kg for an average adult! The reason why we do not feel its effect is the air we breathe in equalizes the atmospheric pressure.

In life, we may also be hard-pressed mentally, emotionally or spiritually in their various ways. Likewise, without God's overcoming power within us to equalize the pressure being applied upon us from outside, we can be overwhelmed.

1. What are you hard-pressed by at this point of your life now? Describe how you feel.

We all build something with the lives we live on earth. But without the proper perspective, everything that takes place under the sun is meaningless. This brief life can be like SAND CASTLES, having the promising external appearance, which gives a false sense of security and stability, but serving no real purpose and crumbles so easily in just a storm.

TALK ABOUT IT
1. What is your experience in building sandcastles? Discuss the emotions that flashed through your mind.

2. Read Ecclesiastes 1:16-18. Why do you think that a person as wise as Solomon would consider wisdom as “chasing after the wind”?

The Fern & the Bamboo...

One day I decided to quit.... I quit my job, my relationship, my spirituality..... I wanted to quit my life. I went to the woods to have one last talk with God.

"God", I said. "Can you give me one good reason not to quit?"

His answer surprised me..."Look around", He said. "Do you see the fern and the bamboo?"

"Yes", I replied."

When I planted the fern and the bamboo seeds, I took very good care of them. I gave them light. I gave them water. The fern quickly grew from the earth. Its brilliant green covered the floor. Yet nothing came from the bamboo seed. But I did not quit on the bamboo. In the second year the Fern grew more vibrant and plentiful. And again, nothing came from the bamboo seed. But I did not quit on the bamboo.

"In the third year, there was still nothing from the bamboo seed. But I would not quit. In the fourth year, again, there was nothing from the bamboo seed. I would not quit."He said.

"Then in the fifth year a tiny sprout emerged from the earth. Compared to the fern it was seemingly small and insignificant. But just six months later the bamboo rose to over 100 feet tall. It had spent the five years growing roots. Those roots made it strong and gave it what it needed to survive. I would not give any of my creations a challenge it could not handle." He said to me.

"Did you know, my child, that all this time you have been struggling, you have actually been growing roots. I would not quit on the bamboo. I will never quit on you. Don't compare yourself to others." He said.

"The bamboo had a different purpose than the fern, yet, they both make the forest beautiful."

"Your time will come, "God said to me. " You will rise high!"

"How high should I rise?" I asked.

"How high will the bamboo rise?" He asked in return.

"As high as it can?" I questioned.

Turn it On- Brother Douglas

- Acts 1:4-5
[4On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: "Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. 5For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit."]

Why did Jesus ask the disciples not to leave Jeruselem?
- They needed the Holy Spirit to fulfill the Great Commission
- If they go without the Holy Spirit and did not turn on the power of God,

1. They will give up easily - no empowerment, they will not be equipped& well trained
2. They will not be able to convince and convict the crowd.
3. They won't be able to withstand hardship.

2 Corinthians 1:21-22
[21Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ. He anointed us, 22set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.]

- We are sealed by the Holy Spirit when we recieved Christ
- Being anointed is the result of the power of God moving in and through your life.

Illustration:
When you boil water, you have to have a kettle, the water, and the plug. And the plug must be plugged in and turned on.

The Plug represents God, the Water represents the Holy Spirit and the Kettle represents us.
What do we lack?

If we have the kettle and the plug, but the plug is not plugged in, the water cannot boil.
- We cannot do without God.

The kettle will explode if we plug it in without the water.
- We cannot do without the Holy Spirit.

We all have alot of potential, but we need to turn the power on. :)

5 Cs of the Holy Spirit when we're empowered by Him.
(Unlike the worldly's 5Cs- all perishable.)

1. Conviction
- Strong belief/opinion - John 16:8
- Do you believe?
- The conviction should still prick your heart like when you first recieved Christ- and it should get stronger and stronger (QT!)
- The Holy Spirit will reveal to us how real Christ is
- It will lead to having a desire, a goal and a direction.
- It will help us win people to Christ- people will see you're not just a commited Christian, but also a convicted one.

2. Confidence - Proverbs 3:26

- Having the Holy Spirit will provide you with confidence and security.
- When you study, you're building a platform for God to perform his miracles- this will help you be confident in passing your exams!

3. Competence

- The ability to do something well and effectively.
- This will make you effective and efficient in the world.
- Ability, talents and experience will be given by the Holy Spirit if you're empowered by Him
- he will help you accomplish greater things for Him.

4. Character

- Something distinct from everyone else- your personality.
- The Holy Spirit will refine your character - your speech, thoughts and actions.
- Two things to look for in a person: trustworthiness (credibility) and truthfulness (honest and has integrity)
- people may not remember your words or actions but they will always remember your character.
- Remember that the power of God and character goes together.

5. Charisma

- The ability to attract, influence and inspire people by our Godly character and living.
- The Holy Spirit makes us attractive and different
- Don't go with the worldly flow- follow the Holy Spirit
- 2 Corinthians 3:18 - reflect God's glory!

dumb dumb- holding on when it's time to let go

Introduction of the story-> judges10:6-18

main character: Jephthah
his background story -> judges 11:1-3

judges 11

vs12: messengers went sent to the Ammonite king and Jephthah tried to negotiate with him but (vs28) that king paid no attention to him.

-> never go to war if there's a conflict, try to clear misunderstandings first (by letting the opposition know the turth (vs 14-27)

vs 29-31: Jephthah made a dumb vow to God
vs 34-29: the result of making a dumb vow

What was he thinking? (vs 29 "Then the Spirit of the LORD came upon Jephthah....") God did not acquire of him that vow. Was that the will of God? Did God require that? But because he made that dumb vow, he felt that he had to keep to it and honour his word. (Lev 27:29)

"Like a fluttering sparrow or a darting swallow, an undeserved curse does not come to rest." -pro26:2

He chose to hold on to that silly vow instead of pleading God, asking to be released from that vow. Since God is merciful God, he would have forgiven him and the vow could be retreived. God wants obedience not promises.

lessons to be learnt:
1. Do not make empty promises which you can't keep.
2. When it is time to let go do not hold on.

BACKGROUND
Jephthah was one of the judges appointed by God to deliver the Israelites from the Ammonites. In fact, he was listed in the Hall of Faith in Hebrews 11:32-33. Yet, in the heat of the moment, he made a foolish vow that he actually fulfilled later, much to his great sorrow.

TALK ABOUT IT
1. What was Jephthah’s first move to counter the impending attack from the Ammonites? What’s the wisdom in doing so?

2. Read Judges 11:29-31. Why was the vow Jephthah made to God foolish?

3. Why do you think Jephthah went through with fulfilling the vow? What could he have done differently?

REFLECT ON IT
Have you made promises to God or others only to find out later that you could not keep them? Reflect on your experience. What adjustments can you make in the future to improve?

LIVE IT
Let’s not hold on when it’s time to let go especially in the area of sin, bad habits, cutting words etc.

God wants us to bear fruit, fruits a plentiful.

John 15:8
God said: If you bear fruit, you represent me and we're his disciples.

1. Repentance
Luke 19:1-10
-Zacchaeus is a proactive and desicive man.
-Had immediate response for repentance.
-Complete turnover, repented to God and not others.
-King David was confronted, he faced humility and admitted.

2. Thanksgiving
Psalm 100:4
1 Thess 5:16-18
These two verses talk about praise and thanksgiving.

3. Good works.
Ephesians 2:8-10
- We're saved by grace and not by works.
- God has tasks for us.

4. Holy Spirit.
Galatians 5:22-23
When you submit to the holy spirit, you'll have a capacity that continues growing.

5. Righteousness.
Ephesians 5:8-10
Doing things in God's standards.

Parable of the sower.
Mattew 13
Hard ground -> Hear but no understanding of the Word.
Rocky places -> Hear, receive in joy, shallow roots, dry up, lack of soil and nutrients.
Thorny ground -> Hear but choked by their worries life has t offer.
Good soil -> Understands what its means t bear fruit.
Sacrifice, hardwork, effort, time, pain but accepted it.

Temptation
Adversity
Persecution.
