SANDCASTLES
what are you building on?

matthew 7:24-27

two kinds of builders:
wise and foolish

both heard the word
wise-puts the word into practice
foolish-did not.

though both houses look the same,
when the storm comes, it will reveal what kind of foundation the houses were built on.

example:
280695 Seoul departmental store

3 factors that led to its collaspe:

1. substandard construction material
the effort we put into our lives

2. poor engineering practices
the habits in our lives

3. government corruption
parellel to our conscience

Lessons

1. we all build something with our lives

2. storms will come to all our lives
john 16:33

3. whether our building stands depends on what foundation we build on
john 14:21
luke 11:28
matthew 7:21-23

edit:
i'm very sorry for the crazy use of colours and italics and bold and all that.
as i've not used blogger for a very long time i got a little bit excited.
i'm also sorry for writing obvious stuff (eg "wise-puts the word into practice foolish-did not.")
but this post just had to look longer.
anyways, see you all tmr!

edit2 (i should really stop editting):
the words look really small. i want to make the font bigger but i have no idea how to.
ps. SHERYL! MAKE THE FONTS BIGGER. THEY'RE KILLING MY EYES.
as i'm not very tech-savvy i cant change them myself. i might just kill the blog. so help me.

Sandcastles: What are you Building?

BACKGROUND
We all build something with the lives we live on earth. But without the proper perspective, everything that takes place under the sun is meaningless. This brief life can be like SAND CASTLES, having the promising external appearance, which gives a false sense of security and stability, but serving no real purpose and crumbles so easily in just a storm.

TALK ABOUT IT
1. What is your experience in building sandcastles? Discuss the emotions that flashed through your mind.

2. Read Ecclesiastes 1:16-18. Why do you think that a person as wise as Solomon would consider wisdom as “chasing after the wind”?

3. What were the “pleasure” and various “great projects” that Solomon undertook in Ecclesiastes 2 that led to frustration? Can you identify any of those in your life?

REFLECT ON IT
After reading the final two verses in Ecclesiastes (12:13, 14), what attitude shall we adopt toward daily living and God?

LIVE IT
Since God will bring every deed into judgment, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil, what immediate adjustments need to be made in your life?

2 Corinthians 4:17-18
Our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal

The Fern & the Bamboo...

One day I decided to quit.... I quit my job, my relationship, my spirituality..... I wanted to quit my life. I went to the woods to have one last talk with God.

"God", I said. "Can you give me one good reason not to quit?"

His answer surprised me..."Look around", He said. "Do you see the fern and the bamboo?"

"Yes", I replied."

When I planted the fern and the bamboo seeds, I took very good care of them. I gave them light. I gave them water. The fern quickly grew from the earth. Its brilliant green covered the floor. Yet nothing came from the bamboo seed. But I did not quit on the bamboo. In the second year the Fern grew more vibrant and plentiful. And again, nothing came from the bamboo seed. But I did not quit on the bamboo.

"In the third year, there was still nothing from the bamboo seed. But I would not quit. In the fourth year, again, there was nothing from the bamboo seed. I would not quit."He said.

"Then in the fifth year a tiny sprout emerged from the earth. Compared to the fern it was seemingly small and insignificant. But just six months later the bamboo rose to over 100 feet tall. It had spent the five years growing roots. Those roots made it strong and gave it what it needed to survive. I would not give any of my creations a challenge it could not handle." He said to me.

"Did you know, my child, that all this time you have been struggling, you have actually been growing roots. I would not quit on the bamboo. I will never quit on you. Don't compare yourself to others." He said.

"The bamboo had a different purpose than the fern, yet, they both make the forest beautiful."

"Your time will come, "God said to me. " You will rise high!"

"How high should I rise?" I asked.

"How high will the bamboo rise?" He asked in return.

"As high as it can?" I questioned.

"Yes." He said, "Give me glory by rising as high as you can."
